The first cocktail book published in Japan, with several original recipes inspired by Japanese themes. The novel and Japanese TV drama "The Emperor's Cook" was based on the life of the author, Akiyama Tokuzō (1888-1974), who worked under famed French chef Auguste Escoffier at Hôtel Ritz Paris and later became the imperial chef to Emperors Taishō and Shōwa (Hirohito). This fourth edition was published less than three months after the first edition. All editions are scarce.

 

Original leather wrappers, lightly worn, partial loss to spine. Ex-ownership stamps of a restaurant to both free endpapers. Small wormholes to corner of lower wrapper and last two leaves. Housed in original card slipcase, slightly bumped, ex-ownership stamp to verso. 1 v., complete. 5, 5, 123 p. + [3 unnumbered pages of illustrated plates]. 15.3 x 9 cm.
