"油町製本菜種黄表紙"
Ryūtei, Senka [Tanehiko II] [text by]; Utagawa, Sadahide [illustrated by].
[Tōkyō]: Tsuruya Kiemon, Tenpō 5 [1834].
A gōkan about which no research in Japanese or English has been located, but which may revolve around bookbinding or publishing. The publisher, Tsuruya Kiemon, was based in Tōriaburachō, the well-known "book street" mentioned in the title. The upper wrappers have been woodblockprinted to resemble kibyōshi ("yellow cover" books) with tipped-in edaisen (illustrated title slips). A promising text for original research, by author Ryūtei Tanehiko II and illustrated by Sadahide.
On double leaves, fukurotoji-style. Upper wrappers original, lower wrappers presumed non-original. Wrappers worn, especially upper of first volume. Repairs to lower opening corner of first volume. Thumbing, a few wormholes. Occasional contemporary inscriptions and handcolouring to illustrations. Last page of advertisements lacking. Four parts in 2 v., complete. 20 continuously paginated leaves + [1 leaf of advertisements]. 17.7 x 11.9 cm.
