A walk through Japan, 1877
Goff, Lieutenant-Colonel [Robert Charles] [text by].
London: Printed by William Clowes and Sons, 1878.
A privately published record of an 1877 trip through Japan by Lieutenant-Colonel Goff, believed to be the British printmaker Robert Charles Goff (1837-1922). Baxley notes that the text is typically housed in gray printed wraps, but this copy has been finely bound in gilt-tooled red morocco with cuttings of silk fabric (presumed Japanese) tipped-in to its boards. The book features one lithographic frontispiece based on a sketch by Goff and a map.
One volume, complete. Wear, rubbing, and wormholes to morocco boards and tipped-in fabric pieces. Fabric sample on lower board significantly wormholed. Occasional wormholes to flyleaves, not affecting text. Small marks to text. Sticker of publisher J.L. Thompson (Kobe, Japan) inversely affixed to lower pastedown. All edges gilt. 14 p. [+ 2 unnumbered leaves of plates]. 24 x 17.8 cm. Text in English.
