Shinpan Hauta Yosebon ["A Storyteller's Book of Hauta Songs, Newly Published"]
[Sanyūtei, Enba (text by)?]; Ichiensai [Utagawa], Kunimaro [illustrated by].
[Tōkyō: publisher unidentified, ca. late Edo period (1840s?)].
A collection of short poems on love, illustrated by Kunimaro. The hauta poems or songs are presented as quotations from courtesans and other figures. The design of the signboard on the upper wrapper suggests the book was connected with or sponsored by the Tengu-ren (a group of amateur performers) and published in a hinoe year (probably 1846). The author may have been the storyteller Sanyūtei Enba, who was a member of the Tengu-ren.
One volume, presumed complete, on double leaves, fukurotoji style. Original upper wrapper worn and lightly soiled, crease to centre, original lower wrapper wanting. Occasional marks and small wormholes to text. Leaves possibly bound out of order. Last (blank) leaf mounted. [14] leaves. 18 x 11.7 cm.
