[Miyakogusa ("Lotus japonicus")]
[Gotō, Ryūkō , Ueno, Seikō , Yamashita, Kōsen, Kobayashi, Gyokunen, Mizuta, Seikō, Shimomura, Gyokukō (Tamahiro) (illustrated by)].
[Kyōto: Honda Unkindō, Meiji 38 (1905)].
An extremely elusive copy of the first volume (presumed all published) of Unkindō's Miyakogusa 'series'. The album features twelve full double-page colour woodblock-printed designs by acclaimed artists including Ueno Seikō , Kobayashi Gyokunen, and Shimomura Gyokukō (sometimes known as Tamahiro) while also presenting designs by the lesser-known artists Gotō Ryū kō, Yamashita Kōsen, and Mizuta Seikō (or Kiyohiro). Miyakogusa is thought to have been an attempt to create a periodical similar to Unsōdō's Seiei (1903-7). A re-bound copy lacking the index, nevertheless unequivocally scarce.
One concertina-bound (orihon) volume, in non-original custom boards with blank daisen title panel. Index lacking. Extremities and gutters lightly stained and faded. Mild waving, occasional offsetting, browning, and light soiling to leaves. Gutters reinforced with washi paper. Hatsu ("first") volume, believed to be all published. Housed in non-original custom slipcase. [12] double-page spreads. 25 x 18 cm.
