Kaika jinkōki ["The enlightenment Jinkōki"]
Takahashi, Takematsu [text by].
Tōkyō: Shōgikudō, [ca. Meiji 18 (1885)].
A short book on the use of the abacus (soroban) in mathematical calculations. The Jinkōki, a text authored by Yoshida Mitsuyoshi (1598-1672, also Kōyū) in the early seventeenth century and acknowledged in the title of this work, is the oldest and ostensibly most influential text on Japanese mathematics (wasan). The use of the word kaika ("enlightenment") in the title may have been used to suggest the importance of soroban calculations in a society increasingly preoccupied with international trade.
