Ishō Sekai ["World of designs"]
Yokota, Hankichi [proofread by]; Sawa, Kyūkō ... [et al.] [illustrated by].
[Tōkyō]: Seibikai, [Meiji 34 (1901)].
Issue two of the magazine Ishō Sekai, published by the Seibikai ("The Exquisite Beauty Association"). The thirteen textile designs (over fifteen pages) included were provided by members of the Seibikai. The use of metallic pigments and karazuri blind-embossing is a highlight of the work. This copy lacks the colophon and the illustration on page 16; nevertheless, the issue's most eye-catching illustrations are present.
One stab-bound (musubitoji) volume, on double leaves, traditional East Asian binding style (fukurotoji). Lacks colophon page and page 16. Original wrappers stained, soiled, and worn. Lower binding ribbon lacking. Considerable losses to lower wrapper and tissue guard. Stains to text pages and margins throughout. Leaves browned and marked, with central creases. Issue 2 of Ishō Sekai. 15, 4 p. 24.2 x 16.8 cm.
