Taki, Katei, Ō, Kinko, Kimura, Shōsen ... [et al.] [illustrated by].
[Japan, ca. 1850-60s]. In manuscript.
An album of one single-page and seven double-page spreads of handwritten calligraphy and twelve double-page spreads of hand-painted illustrations (often together with shorter calligraphic passages). The album features illustrations of a moon and bamboo by Taki Katei (1830-1901), a man painting a hanging scroll by Ō Kinko (1830-1905, studied under Oda Kaisen (1785-1862)), and a Kanō style sennin on a cloud holding a peach of immortality by Kimura Shōsen (1829-95). The other calligraphers' and artists' seals and signatures are as yet undeciphered. A beautiful hand-painted album, probably from the Kantō region.
One concertina-folding (orihon) volume, complete. Original silk-covered boards lightly worn and marked. Original handwritten mounted daisen title panel, signed and with two name seals. Occasional small wormholes, light foxing, creases, and marks internally. Several double-page spreads blank. Foxing, small stains, and occasional chips to textblock edges. Two tape repairs to lower pastedown. [Unpaged]. 22.7 x 15 cm.
