Love poems with humorous illustrations by YoshimoriDodoitsu zue (Illustrated love poems)
Dodoitsu zue ["Illustrated love poems"]
Kōseisha, Sakumaru [selections by]; Ikkōsai [Utagawa], Yoshimori [illustrated by].
[Japan: publisher/s unidentified, preface dated Man'en gannen (1860)].
Five volumes of dodoitsu (poems that are often humorous and typically about love) illustrated by Yoshimori (1830–1884), bound in one. It may be the case that Kōseisha Sakumaru (the name of the poem 'selector') was one of the pseudonyms used by Yoshimori. The last page features an illustration of what appears to be the artist and illustrator yawning at their shared desk, their work done.
Five parts in one four-hole-bound (yotsumetoji) volume, complete, on double leaves, traditional East Asian binding style (fukurotoji). Presumed original wrappers stained and worn, with minor losses, lacking mounted daisen title panel. Loss to lower opening corner of v.1 leaf 3 and upper opening corner of v.2 leaf 2. Occasional creases, small tears, and thumbing to lower opening corners. Internal marks and minor wormholes to gutter. 10, 10, 10, 10, 10 leaves. 18.1 x 12 cm.
