[Shōkadō, Shōjo (original illustrations by)?].
[Japan: publisher unidentified, ca. early to mid-Shōwa period (1930-50s)?].
An album of illustrations of the sanjūrokkasen ("Thirty-Six Immortals of Poetry") and calligraphic renderings of poems by the poets - probably a high quality reproduction of an album hand-painted by Shōkadō Shōjō (1584-1639), one of the Kan'ei Sanpitsu ("Three brushes of the Kan'ei period"), in Kan'ei 5 (1628). The album is housed in its original wooden box.
One concertina-folding orijō volume, complete. Papers featuring calligraphy and illustrations tipped-in to card leaves. A few marks to textblock edges. Sticker removal to lower pastedown. Housed in original wooden box with presumed original fabric wrapping. Presumed non-original title sticker to box's end panel. Leather ties present. Volume measures 25.8 x 12.4 cm; box measures 27.5 x 13.9 cm.
