A set of two photographs of Japanese photography studios located in Nagasaki and Kobe. One of the photos shows the Nagasaki main street shopfronts of "Tamemasa, Dealer in Photographs", "S. Shinowara, Photographer", "Sato, General ... [illegible] Curio Dealer..., Nagasaki", "Furuya, Curio Dealer", and "Porcelain Ware ... [illegible]". The other photograph shows the storefront of "Shin-e-do, Motomachi Gochome, Kobe, Photograph Depot, Dealer in Lacquered Albums and Photographs of all Famous Scenes, Customs [illegible] in Japan, Plain or Coloured of all [illegible] Etc." Adjacent is an Asahi Beer shop. A photograph of a shipyard is tipped-in to the verso of the Nagasaki photo's mounting. The photographs may have been produced by the photography studios pictured to advertise their services and products.
Three photographs tipped-in to two mounting cards. Cards a little waved and browned. Manuscript notes to margins. Occasional scrapes and small tears. Lower right corner of Kobe card slightly split. Nagasaki photo measures 20.4 x 24.4 cm, mounted on 26 x 33.5 cm card; Kobe photo measures 20.7 x 26.7 cm, mounted on 26.5 x 35.3 cm card.
