Yukihisa Isobe Exhibition
Isobe, Yukihisa [illustrated by].
Tōkyō: Tokyo Gallery, 1964.
A catalogue from an exhibition of works by Yukihisa Isobe (1935-) held in Tokyo in April of 1964. The card folder features four panels (three on the recto, one on the verso) that open to reveal scenes on loosely inserted cards. The cards can be removed from the outer folder and switched over and around so different scenes can be revealed by the folding panels. One of the cards features a short essay by the artist in Japanese and English; the other three have photographic illustrations on both sides. At the exhibition, Isobe presented his geta-bako (shoe cabinet) series, inviting exhibition-goers to open the doors of the small 'cubbies' on display. Several illustrations reference his slightly earlier wappen (coat of arms) series. Isobe, an acquaintance of Ei-Q (1911-1960) and a member of his Demokrato artists association, has been linked with abstractionism, pop art, and ethical ecology. The Isobe Yukihisa Memorial Echigo-Tsumari Kiyotsu Soko Museum of Art was opened in 2015.
One card folder housing four loose leaves, complete. Light discolouration, creases, bumps, and small tears to folder. A few light creases to leaves. Folder + [4] leaves. 23.8 x 23.8 cm.
