Kanegura Sandaiki ["Three Generations of Treasuries"]
Hattori [Mantei], Ōga [text by]; Seisei [Kawanabe], Kyōsai [illustrated by].
Tōkyō: Yamazakiya Seishichi ... [et al.], Meiji 7 [1874].
Three Kyōsai-Ōga zasshi bound in one, complete, on a family's economic struggles revolving around their pawnshop Iseya. The title of the moralistic work on the importance of money parodies that of the Edo period play Kamakura Sandaiki ("Three Generations of Kamakura Shoguns"). The issues were available for individual sale or bound together. The woodblock-printed daisen title panel mounted on the upper wrapper indicates the outer card wrappers were probably provided by the publisher and not appended by an ex-owner. This three-in-one compilation was published without the illustrated upper wrappers for issues two and three and without some of the back matter. No full sets traced outside of Japan in OCLC.
Three issues bound in one four-hole-bound (yotsumetoji) volume, complete, on double leaves, traditional East Asian binding style (fukurotoji). Original woodblock-printed daisen title panel present. Original wrappers slightly worn and creased. Small wormholes, most repaired. Unobtrusive ex-ownership seal to first text page. Small scrape to internal title. 8; 8; 8 leaves. 21.8 x 14.5 cm.
