Kanzeon Reigenki Hyakuban Mokuroku ["Record of the Miracles of Kannon: Index of the One Hundred Pilgrimage Sites"]
Ōju Mantei, Ōga [text by]; [Utagawa], Toyokuni [III], [Utagawa], Hiroshige [II] [illustrated by].
[Edo (Tōkyō): Nanden Nisanshō, Ansei 6 (1859)].
The index print for a series of nishiki-e listing one hundred temples from three pilgrimage routes: the Saigoku 33-temple pilgrimage, the Chichibu 34-temple pilgrimage, and the Bandō 33-temple pilgrimage. The series, also known as Kan'non Reigenki, was published in one hundred prints and involved the collaboration of acclaimed artists Toyokuni III (Kunisada I, 1786-1865) and Hiroshige II (1826-1869). The fact that Mantei Ōga provided the text for the prints demonstrates his perceived value as a writer in the pre-Meiji era and the strength of his networks.
One index sheet printed on one side, complete. Extremities trimmed and slightly soiled. A few creases and small wormholes. Mounted on card. 35.4 x 23.3 cm.
