Kinryū, Sanjin, Suzuki, Kōhachi [edited by].
Tōkyō: Ōkawaya Shoten, Meiji 37 [1904].
A collection of dodoitsu, kyōku, kyōka, haiku, kappore, and other poems published in support of Japan's victory in the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905). The work was published on the 14th of March 1904, around a month after the Battle of Port Arthur. The colour woodblock printed upper wrapper features a black pigeon (kurohato - a nickname used for Russian Imperial Minister of War Aleksei Nikolaevich Kuropatkin (1848-1925), whose last name sounded similar to the Japanese word) and a black eagle, the latter which featured on the Russian Empire's coat of arms. A fascinating collection of war poems in various styles, several featuring references to specific historical figures and locations. No physical copies traced in OCLC.
One staple-bound volume, complete. Original wrappers, lightly chipped, browned, and soiled, upper woodblock printed. Minor foxing to endpapers. Leaves browned. Light bumps to textblock extremities. 30 p. 13.8 x 10.4 cm.
