Hittatsu Sensei Bokumyō ["Exquisite Paintings by Teacher Hittatsu"]
Kunii, [Seinosuke] [illustrated by]; Fuyō, Mokuyō [Suzuki, Fuyō] [postscript by?].
Hamura, [Edo (Tokyo)?], Bunka 10 [1813]. In manuscript.
A handscroll by the artist Kunii Seinosuke of landscapes and birds in a nanga or bunjinga (literati painting) style. Kunii (dates of birth and death unknown, family name Hamura, artist's name Hittatsu (?)), a wealthy man from Hagaemura, Niigata, studied art under the literati painter Urakami Shūkin (1785-1846, a son of the painter and musician Urakami Gyokudō (1745-1820) who later sold Kunii his father's famed qin (seven-stringed zither/koto)). The postscript seems to have been provided by the highly acclaimed artist Fuyō Mokuyō (Suzuki Fuyō) in Bunka 10 (1813), when Fuyō was 62. A sensitively painted scroll requiring further research.
One handscroll, complete. Wrappers presumed original, daisen title panel probably added later, losses and cracks to both. Occasional browning, creases, light marks, wormholes, and very minor marginal losses internally. Approximately 29.7 x 824 cm.
