A fortune-telling book and sangi (counting rod) set, housed in its original box. To tell one's fortune, the six rods would be thrown, and the resulting hexagram checked in the book. The book lists 64 hexagrams originally recorded in the I Ching and provides fortunes regarding marriage, travel, sales, illness, and other topics of interest together with numerous double-page copperplate printed illustrations. No copies traced outside of Japan in OCLC.
One Western bound volume, complete, on double leaves, traditional East Asian binding style (fukurotoji). Original boards worn and lightly soiled, small losses to spine. Tears, browning, and light stains to endpapers. Ex-ownership stamp to lower free endpaper. Endpaper gutters cracked, not affecting tightness of binding. Tear to first text page. Occasional thumbing and light marks internally. Running to pink pigment on textblock foot and head. Six original wooden divining blocks present. Original card box worn, lightly soiled, and scraped.
