A Japanese translation of a work of the same English title on the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871) by Linus Pierpont Brockett (1820-1893). The volumes feature numerous copperplate-printed illustrations, the majority of which depict famous historical figures who played central roles in the conflict. A highlight of the work is the large fold-out map in Japanese of the countries involved. Two physical sets traced outside of Japan in OCLC.
Six four-hole-bound (yotsumetoji) volumes, complete, on double leaves, traditional East Asian binding style (fukurotoji). Original wrappers lightly worn, those of v.1-2 mottled. Inscribed paper panels tipped-in to upper wrapper of v.1. Bumps to opening corners of wrappers and textblocks. Occasional ex-ownership seals to margins.
