A colourful depiction by Toyokuni III (Utagawa Kunisada) of Jiraiya (probably played by Ichikawa Danjuro VIII) and Princess Tagoto (probably Iwai Kumesaburo III) from the play Jiraiya Gōketsu Monogatari. The pattern on Princess Tagoto's eri collar is blind-embossed (karazuri) and the black sections of Jiraiya's kimono are burnished (shōmenzuri). A vibrant impression.
One ōban nishiki-e, complete. Light wear, discolouration, and a few small pinholes to extremities. 38.2 x 26.2 cm.
