Shimeizukushi Sugoroku ["A Game Board of Various Papers"]

A Shōwa period edition of this illustrated game about papermaking and Japanese paper types. The original edition is thought to have been produced between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Each panel depicts the paper type named in the red column to the right. Books, tanzaku, decorative chiyogami, hōshōgami, minogami, ganpishi, torinokogami, fusumagami, Asakusagami, and many other papers are pictured, as are assorted colours and sizes of paper. An illustration of two women papermaking is included in the bottom right panel of the print.
One colour woodblock-printed leaf, complete. Slightly browned. Small tear to lower left extremity. 26.3 x 38.1 cm.
