Kuang Shi Tu Shuo ["An Illustrated Explanation of Ore"]
Fu, Lanya [Fryer, John] [text by].
[China: publisher unidentified], Guāngxù 10 [1884].
A text on ore/natural rocks in Chinese by British missionary John Fryer (1839–1928). The work includes numerous in-text diagrams of typical shapes of rocks and crystals, and was probably produced with an accompanying illustrated book or print, as the text provides descriptions of diagrams that are not included in this volume. Fryer produced many scientific books and several scientific journals in Chinese during his time as Chief Translator of Scientific Books in the Department for the Translation of Foreign Books at the Kiangnan Arsenal. Fryer left China in 1896 to become the Professor of Oriental Language and Literature at the University of California. Records of this work are few and far between.
