[Untitled set of printing blocks]
[Creators unidentified].
[Japan, ca. late Edo to early Shōwa period (1860-1930s?)].
An assortment of wooden and metal printing blocks and pieces of type produced in Japan. Most of the wooden blocks feature advertisements for sake and hemp, and seem to have been produced in Yashū, Tochigi Prefecture. The metal blocks, on the other hand, appear to have belonged to a bookbinder or printer: one of the blocks was used to print the daisen (outer title panel) of a book.
Approximately 45 blocks and single type pieces. Occasional marks and scrapes from use. Largest block measures 33.3 x 7.6 x 1.1 cm. Smallest single type piece measures 5 x 3 x 22 mm.
