A collection of 29 leaves of paintings of animals and people produced by a burgeoning artist for practice. The paintings are largely copied from artworks by notable artists including Miyagawa Chōshun (1682-1752) and Iwasa Matabē (1578-1650). In many of the illustrations, the student artist has captioned sections with the colours used in the original paintings. They have also occasionally transcribed the original artists' signatures. A varied collection of sketches and carefully reproduced paintings offering insights into the practice methods of an art student in the Meiji period.
29 leaves. Creases, folds, browning, occasional stains, and minor tears and losses. Occasional washi paper repairs to losses. Smallest leaf measures 19.4 x 27.2 cm; largest measures 113 x 53.7 cm.
